Jirau Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) is the fourth largest power generation facility in Brazil in installed capacity, after Itaipu Binacional, Belo Monte and Tucuruí. It is located on the Madeira River, 120 km from the capital Porto Velho (RO), in Padre Island.
A UHE Jirau foi construída com base na chamada engenharia otimizada, uma solução inovadora que leva em consideração o cuidado com o meio ambiente, a modicidade tarifária, a nova fronteira tecnológica de turbinas e geradores, resultando em segurança energética para o país. Sua barragem é do tipo enrocamento com núcleo asfáltico, cujo comprimento total da crista é de 1.150m e altura máxima de 62m.
Jirau HPP was built on the basis of what is known as optimized engineering, an innovative solution that takes into account care with the environment, the affordability of the tariff, the new technological frontier of turbines and generators, resulting in energy security for the country. The dam is of the landfill type on the Right Bank and part of asphalt core on the Left Bank.
Jirau HPP has 3,750 MW of installed capacity, representing 3.7% of all hydroelectric power in the country. Jirau HPP provides renewable energy to more than 40 million people.

Jirau HPP has two power houses, the first one with 28 generating units, bulb type, coupled to the water intake, located in the right branch of the Madeira River. On the left bank, there are 22 more generating units, also of the bulb type, with the southern end of Padre Island as its vertex. Each of the power houses has two areas equipped for assembly and maintenance of the 50 75 MW generating units. A main dam, of the rockfill with asphalt core type, is arranged according to a rectilinear axis connecting the southern end of Padre Island to the right wall of the Powerhouse of the Left Bank.

Sua garantia física é de 2.211,6 MW médios e fornece energia para o Sistema Interligado Nacional (SIN) desde o dia 6 de setembro de 2013, quando a primeira unidade geradora entrou em operação comercial.
A UHE Jirau opera com nível d’água entre as cotas 82,5 m e 90,0 m. A área do reservatório é variável, com seu nível máximo de área alagada em 616,19 km². Sua garantia física é de 2.211,6 MW médios e fornece energia para o Sistema Interligado Nacional (SIN) desde o dia 6 de setembro de 2013, quando a primeira unidade geradora entrou em operação comercial.
JIRAU ENERGIA aims to provide renewable and clean energy with social and environmental sustainability. Therefore, the Jirau HPP project considered the principles of sustainable development as the basis for the construction of the enterprise, providing the preservation of the environment and better quality of life for citizens. The construction of the Plant generated more than 60,000 jobs, between direct and indirect, with extensive use of the local labor force.
